. iranian commanders claim it entered their airspace the past few days but the navy says all this, all of the unmanned airline vehicles are accounted for, thank you. it points out that several gulf nations use the same types of unmanned surveillance aircraft so maybe it was someone else's. david lee, what else is iran claiming? >>reporter: well, iran is claiming it entered iranian airspace and the naval chief said it took off from an aircraft carrier. iranian state tv is using the word "capture" saying it was captured but they are not releasing details of where or when. a commentator said it was on a mission over the persian gulf and the navy says all unmanned air vehicles are accounted for. over the years, drones of which this was allegedly one, have been lost in the water and that happened in october. the navy believes that drone came apart as designed and sank. among other countries that use this drone in the area, the united arab emirates and kuwait and this is a very low tech product that essentially is a flying camera with a transmitter and the iranians may not be aware this part

. this is "studio b." first from fox at 3:00 in new york city, we know the identity of the navy seal who died in the dangerous hostage rescue in afghanistan. here he is, officials confirmed he was 28-year-old from pennsylvania, a member of the navy seal team six. the same group that killed osama bin laden. the mission this weekend was to rescue a doctor from colorado. he was doing humanitarian work in afghanistan when the taliban kidnapped him last week near the border with pakistan. officials say the seal team moved in when intelligence showed the doctor's life was in immediate danger. now we find out more of the daring raid and the intense firefight that killed one of our most elite fighters. jennifer griffin is live for us this afternoon at pentagon. tell us of the navy seal. >>reporter: he was young, just 28 and he was not on the bin laden raid. that was made up of members who were much older, petty officer first-class nicholas check came from a suburb of pittsburgh, pennsylvania, and died sunday of wounds he received during the rescue. i am told the team took a great dial of fire on the

to is syrian opposition. bret? >> bret: thank you. we'll follow that. u.s. navy seal is dead and american doctor held hostage is alive and free tonight. it's another story of special operation courage and expertise. but imkate with the ultimate price. national security correspondent jennifer griffin is at the pentagon tonight. >> petty officer first class nicolas check was 28 years old. the recipient of a bronze star for valor. he grew up in a suburb of pittsburgh. early sunday he was airlifted with the rest of his squad rant from seal team six, the same unit that carried out the bin laden raid. he was not part of that mission. sunday's asipement was to save the life of joseph, a colorado springs doctor who had been kidnapped along with two other afghans working for the aid group morning star development at a rural clinic. they were returning back to kabul on the road east of the capital on wednesday. "the other two members had been release by the captors about 11 hours earlier, following hours of negotiations conducted over three days." according to a statement released by the aid group.
the u.s. navy has fully accounted for all unmanned vehicles operating in the middle east region. we have the latest developments now from cairo. a u.s. source says that if the iranians do have something, it is not an actively operating u.s. navy drone. what would that mean? could this actually be a fake? >> it could be. it's not clear right now, but iranian officials have a different story. we don't know when or how this u.s. drone was allegedly captured, but you can be sure iran is going to count this as a big intelligence victory over the u.s. you can also be sure they'll use this to portray the u.s. as the aggressor in the region. that's what iran has done for more than three decades. briefly, let's tell you about the reports from state media in iran. reports say iran captured a drone flying over the northern persian gulf waters after it allegedly flew into iranian airspace. this is a region close to iran's only nuclear power plant. a statement by iran's revolutionary guard said this happened over the past few days. the statement described the drone as a u.s.-made scan eagle. this is

negligence on the va's part. >> reporter: bob nicklas is talking about his father, bill, a world war ii navy hero who would drop into hostile waters to save downed navy pilots. but bill nicklas died the day after thanksgiving from heart failure and legionnaires' disease. he contracted it from using the water at the va, which was contaminated with high levels of a bacteria known as legionella, the cause of legionnaires' disease. two other families are wondering whether their veterans contracted the legionnaires' disease that killed them from this same pittsburgh va. cnn has now learned that hospital officials knew they had a problem with the water system as far back as december of last year but chose not to reveal any of that publicly until a month ago. >> being a veteran myself, i'm shocked and appalled that the va would put, you know, their veterans in that type of situation. >> reporter: records obtained by cnn show that over the past year, the amount of disinfectant in the va's water was less than the amount needed to prevent legionella bacteria from reaching dangerous levels. and interna
